Can you imagine your way to warmer weather? At Berkeley Repertory Theatre, you can certainly try. Today, the theatre began enrollment for spring classes at its School of Theatre, as well as a summer intensive for middle- and high-school students. The ten-week spring schedule includes courses for all ages and abilities in acting, directing, movement, voice, and playwriting. This session emphasizes fun for everyone, including two classes-Superheroes and Flex Your Funnybone-that are scheduled concurrently, so that the entire family can enjoy age-appropriate play.
"Lifelong learning is one of the School's core values," explains Rachel Fink, director of the School of Theatre. "But when you're a parent, it's sometimes difficult to carve out time for yourself. Our concurrent classes make it possible for active, engaged families to make enrichment and fun a priority for everyone."
The spring class session begins April 6, shortly after the Theatre's production of Crime and Punishment ends. Students who pre-enroll for their spring classes at the School of Theatre will save 20% on two tickets to this gripping adaptation of Dostoevsky's classic novel. The spring schedule features the following activities:
Classes for kids (kindergarten through grade 8) include three classes focusing on storytelling - Acting Up, The Story Feast, and Superheroes - as well as Improvisation, Musical Theatre Performance, Performance Workshop, two levels of Stage Combat (unarmed and broadsword), and private vocal instruction.
The Berkeley Rep School of Theatre provides a wide array of programming for individuals of all ages. In addition to this Family Series, the School offers theatre classes for youth and adults; Target ® Story Builders, a drama workshop for elementary-school classrooms; the Student Matinee Series for middle- and high-school students; the Playmaking Project for high-school students and incarcerated youth; in-school residencies; teacher training; and a variety of outreach activities that encourage lifelong learning. The School also hosts the Teen Council, which allows youth to participate in all aspects of the dramatic process: on stage, backstage, and in front of the stage. Housed in the Nevo Education Center, the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre is supported by the Mosse Foundation for Arts and Education.
