Bakula to Play Lead in 'Dancing in the Dark'

Golden Globe-award winner and Emmy- and Tony-nominated actor Scott Bakula, known for his performances in Romance/Romance, and TV's "Quantum Leap" and Star Trek's "Enterprise," is tapped to play the lead, Tony Hunter, in Dancing in the Dark, a new musical based on the film The Band Wagon. 

The musical version is to be directed by The Color Purple's Gary Griffin and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, and will make its world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego March 4 through April 13, 2008.

The Band Wagon, (1953) is a musical comedy film, released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer which tells the story of an aging musical star who wants to star in a Broadway play that will restart his career. But the play's director wants to make it a pretentious retelling of Faust, and brings in a prima ballerina who clashes with the show's star. The film originally starred Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, Oscar Levant, Nanette Fabray and Jack Buchanan.

Bakula has also been seen on Broadway in Is There Life After High School? and Marilyn, as well as Off-Broadway in 3 Guys Naked from the Waist Down.  Other film and TV credits include Life as a House, Above Suspicion, American Beauty, "Murphy Brown" and Lord of Illusions.
