The national touring production of director John Doyle's recent Sweeney Todd Broadway revival has reached Los Angeles and is now playing at downtown's Ahmanson Theatre through April 6th.
Doyle's deconstruction of the Stephen Sondheim musical stars Judy Kaye (Mrs. Lovett) and David Hess (Sweeney Todd). They are joined by Diana DiMarzio, Benjamin Eakeley, Benjamin Magnuson, Steve McIntyre, Lauren Molina and Elisa Winter, all of whom appeared in the Broadway production. Also in the cast are Edmund Bagnell, Keith Buterbaugh, Katrina Yaukey, Edwin Cahill, David Garry and Megan Loomis.
Sweeney Todd follows "a London barber driven to a life of crime after a malevolent judge takes his wife and child from him," state notes. "Sweeney's plan for revenge includes a cutthroat partnership with Mrs. Lovett - an enterprising businesswoman - who is soon producing the tastiest meat pies in London."
BroadwayWorld's own James Sims recently joined actors Kaye, Hess, Molina and Bagnell in the Ahmanson lobby to discover their own visions of Sweeney Todd and understand why Sondheim's work continues to remain popular nearly 30 years since first bowing on Broadway.
