Actress Jenna Gavigan, an original cast member of the 2003 Broadway Gypsy revival starring Bernadette Peters, and understudy for the role of June (going on 44 times), now calls Los Angeles home and earlier this week performed a cabaret show at Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's, in Studio City.
The five-foot-two actress and singer has been busy doing guest starring bits on a handful of prime-time television shows, including "Numb3s," "Criminal Minds," "Cold Case" and "Without a Trace," but has not lost her love of the stage.
Last year Gavigan starred opposite S. Epatha Merkerson and Alan Rosenberg in the Center Theatre Group's presentation of Come Back Little Sheba, a production that ultimately transferred to New York and opened on Broadway with Merkseon this season, although Gavigan and a majority of the Los Angeles cast did not transfer.
Having appeared at Sterling's in December 2006 as a special guest in Fox's "Bones" star Eric Millegan's cabaret show, Gavigan put together her own show, with a little help from Millegan, Heather Lee (Gypsy, Guys & Dolls) and Tad Hilgenbrink ("American Pie Presents: Band Camp").
BroadwayWorld's own James Sims stopped by Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's to chat with Gavigan about her big Broadway debut in Gypsy with Peters, performing opposite Merkerson, working as a television actress and crafting a cabaret show.
Vitello's is located at 4349 Tujunga Ave. Studio City, CA 91604. Valet Parking is available. For additional information on Sterling's Upstairs, please visit the club's web site at: www.myspace.com/sterlingsupstairs. And for more from James Sims visit www.simsscoop.com.
