Desert Theatreworks, Palm Desert's acclaimed 501(c)(3) community theatre, will present STEEL MAGNOLIAS, Robert Harling's 1987 off-Broadway sensation, which subsequently became a hit motion picture.
Alternately hilarious and touching, STEEL MAGNOLIAS is the story of the outspoken clientele of Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana. An eclectic group of women, made up of the town curmudgeon, an eccentric millionaire plus the queen bee of the social set and her beautiful daughter, all get their hair done by the wise-cracking Truvy and her eager new assistant, Annelle. When a sudden tragedy befalls the close-knit group of women, their inner strength and love for each other pulls them through.
Filled with hilarious Southern repartee and humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play draws on the town's underlying strength and undeniable humor. Lance Phillips-Martinez directs the talents of Rebecca Hertsgaard (Ouiser), Shirley LeMaster (Clairee), Phylicia Mason (Annelle), Lee Rice (Truvy), Daniela Ryan (M'Lynn) and Briana Taylor (Shelby).
Steel Magnolias is recommended for ages 10 and up.
