All Shook Up, Altar Boyz, Twelve Angry Men, STOMP, Doubt, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Chita Rivera--The Dancer's Life, and
The Light in the Piazza--as well as the pre-Broadway tryout of the new musical
High Fidelity--will comprise the 2006-2007 Broadway Across America-Boston season.
All Shook Up will play the Opera House from September 26th through October 8th. Based around the songs of
Elvis Presley, directed by Christoper Ashley and with a book by
Joe Calarco, the show recounts the unlikely romance of a small-town girl and a guitar-playing rebel.
Based on the
Nick Hornby novel (which inspired the hit 2000 film),
High Fidelity will feature a book by
David Lindsay-Abaire, music by
Tom Kitt and lyrics by
Amanda Green. The show is about a record store owner who seeks the solution to a present failing relationship by confronting a few of his ex-girlfriends. The show will be directed by
Walter Bobbie. It runs from September 26th through October 22nd at the Colonial Theatre.
Altar Boyz, with a score by
Gary Adler and
Michael Patrick Walker and a book by
Kevin Del Aguila, is an affectionately satiric musical about a Catholic boy band on their
Raise the Praise tour. The show will run from October 31st through November 5th at the Colonial Theatre.
STOMP will also play the Colonial, from December 5th through 17th. The movement-and-percussion show "uses everything but conventional percussion instruments - matchboxes,
wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps - to fill
the stage with magnificent rhythms," according to press notes.
Doubt will star Tony Award-winner
Cherry Jones, who starred in the original Broadway cast of the
John Patrick Shanley play about a priest whose behavior arouses the suspicion of Catholic school's nun/principal. Directed by
Doug Hughes, the play will run at the Colonial Theatre from February 6th through 18th, 2007.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, directed by
Jack O'Brien, choreographed by
Jerry Mitchell, with a score by
David Yazbek and a book by
Jeffrey Lane, will run at the Opera House from March 6th through 18th. The musical follows two crooks who try to out-swindle each other across the French Riviera.
The Tony Award-winning legend herself will take center stage for
Chita Rivera--The Dancer's Life at the Colonial Theatre from May 1st through 13th. Featuring numbers from West Side Story, Bye Bye, Birdie,
Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman and others, The Dancer's Life is directed and choreographed by
Graciela Daniele and features a book by
Terrence McNally.
The Light in the Piazza, directed by
Bartlett Sher and with a Tony Award-winning score by
Adam Guettel, will come to the Colonial Theatre from May 29th through June 9th. The show, which is based on
ElizaBeth Spencer's novella about a mother and her love-struck daughter on vacation in Florence, also features a book by
Craig Lucas.
The Boston Ballet's annual production of
The Nutcracker will also play The Opera House from November 24th through December 30th.
