Breathless, the story of two people from opposite end of the spectrum colliding on a train one late night in Chicago, will play at the Johnson Theater at Theater for the New City as part of the 2011 Dream Up Festival, September 1st-4th.
The play is co-directed by and stars Stacy Osei-Kuffour and Michael Sutherland. In Breathless, a proper black woman from the suburbs and a white wannabe "thug" from the inner city engage in a unique conversation that forces them to confront their own issues of race, sex, and identity. As the ride wears on, and the night grows longer, the two discover they may have more in common than they thought. An active and visceral look at a Culture Clash, Breathless reverses racial stereotypes and challenges the ideas of race and identity in a seeming post racial society.BIOS
