BLACKBIRD, FEVER/DREAM & More Featured in California Repertory Company & CSULB's 2013-14 Season

LA Drama Critics Circle Award-winning California Repertory Company and the CSULB Theatre Arts Department are proud to announce our 2013 - 2014 Season, at the Royal Theater aboard the Queen Mary and the CSULB Theatre Arts Building, which runs September 20, 2013 - May 10, 2014.

California Repertory Company, performing in the Royal Theater aboard the Queen Mary with a company of professional actors, will open the 2013-2014 season with David Harrower's haunting reunion play, Blackbird. Next up is Irish playwright Enda Walsh's recent hit, Penelope, followed by Edward Albee's latest masterpiece of the absurd, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? The California Repertory Company season will close with Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's modern American musical classic, Next to Normal. Cal Rep company members appearing this season include Roma Maffia, Karole Foreman, Christopher Shaw, Brian Mulligan, Roberto Alcarez, Andre Garner, Anna Steers, and Craig Anton.

The Undergraduates of the CSULB Theatre Arts Department will open the Fall with Sheila Callaghan's Fever/Dream, an update of Calderon's Life is a Dream, in the Studio Theatre. The Studio Theatre will also house William Finn's charming musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and finish the fall with a new student-devised piece based on Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven. Spring will begin with Adam Rapp's chilling Red Light Winter in the intimate Players' Theatre, followed by Marina Carr's Medea adaptation, By the Bog of Cats, in the Studio Theatre. The season will close with Jorge Cortines' magical Blind Mouth Singing in The Players' Theatre. Three productions will be directed by CSULB Theatre Department alums, including recent MFA graduate Alexandra Billings, Olivia Trevino, and 2013 graduate Lizzy Ferdinandi.

The California State University, Long Beach Theatre Arts Department is home to a diverse student, staff, and faculty population and houses three producing entities - California Repertory Company aboard the Queen Mary, our graduate arm; Undergraduate Productions in the CSULB Studio and Players Theatres; and Theatre Threshold, a laboratory company for student initiated and produced coursework with weekly performances in Theatre Arts Studio 24/26. Cal Rep performances are in the Royal Theater aboard the Queen Mary. Productions run Tuesday through Saturday at 8 pm, with limited Saturday matinees. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for students, military, and seniors (55 and older). Parking at the Queen Mary is $8 for patrons of Cal Rep performances, $6 for CSULB students and patrons who have dinner aboard the ship. Long Beach Public Transit also runs directly to the ship. Undergraduate performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 pm, with limited Saturday and Sunday matinees. The Players Theatre and Studio Theatre are both on the CSULB South Campus in the Theatre Arts Building, accessible via West Campus Drive.
