The A2 Ensemble, subsidiary company of Antaeus Company, L.A.'s multiple award-winning classical theater company, presents Shakespeare's "King Phycus" by Tom Willmorth. The A2 Ensemble is the next generation of the Antaeus Company, a collective of young professional actors dedicated to employing the classics to discuss contemporary topics, thereby challenging our definition of "classical theater".
John Apicella directs this companion piece to Antaeus' summer production of Macbeth. Performances take place tonight, July 17 through July 26. Suggested Donation of $10.
The legend goes… In the far back reaches of 2010, Shakespearean scholarship was shaken to its roots by the discovery in quarto of a hitherto lost and utterly unknown Shakespeare play: SHAKESPEARE'S KING PHYCUS Under the deft, astute, incisive and slightly titillating eye of Tom Willmorth, this historical-pastorical-tragical comedy has been edited, adapted, rudely slapped and lightly caressed into a script that the A2 Ensemble could not resist.
SHAKESPEARE'S KING PHYCUS was originally performed to critical and audience acclaim by Chicago's Strange Tree Group in 2010. This is its first Los Angeles production.
The
SHAKESPEARE'S KING PHYCUS ensemble includes
Drew Doyle, Belen Greene,
Jason Thomas, Patrick Wenk-Wolff, Abby Wilde and Buck Zachary – all in a variety of roles.
Performances of
Shakespeare's "King Phycus" take place tonight, July 17 through July 26 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays @ 8 pm; Thursdays @ 11 pm (following the mainstage production of
