Catalina Jazz Club is all atingle to announce the Catalina debut of Andy James. This performance will celebrate the release of her current album Caravan and also the launch of her "Little Wow" 2018-19 Tour. From start to finish that night, fans will be transported to a time when both music and performers were original and masterfully skilled with no need for bells and whistles of present-day technology. Andy will put her fresh take on some of the most outstanding highlights of the Great American Songbook that include the Ellington title track, the Beatles' "Blackbird," and Rogers and Hart's "It Never Entered My Mind." She will also pepper in hits from her recent EP No Regrets and her upcoming big band album All the Lovely Things You Are (to be released Valentine's week 2019). Some of the gems making the list are, "What Ever Lola Wants, Lola Gets," "Slow Hot Wind," and "Fever."
Andy is a captivating performer that is elegant and exciting with just a little dash of wicked. Riff Review called Andy James' sound "smoky and luxurious with every lush detail of the music carried out exquisitely." The legendary Bill Cunliffe, her music director and arranger, leads a stellar eight-piece band of players in the top echelon of the business including: Chris Colangelo, Bass; Ray Brinker, Drums; Jake Langley, Guitar; Lolly Allen, Vibraphone; Ron Stout, Trumpet; Nathan King, Alto Saxophone; and Brandon Fields, Tenor Saxophone. Each and every musician is at the top of their game, achieving the ultimate in artistry of these spectacular pieces and scintillating charts.
The show at Catalina Jazz Club is on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at 8:30 pm in Hollywood, CA; it is the first show of more than a dozen on her Little Wow International Tour.
