Noche de Cine, part of Gustavo Dudamel's signature festival, Americas & Americans, celebrates film composers from North and South America featuring film clips and scores performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by Dudamel. The program features a suite from Libertador - Dudamel's first feature-length film score; and Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will perform with a suite from his Motorcycle Diaries score.
Dudamel will premiere suite from Liberator on July 31.
The works of Emmy Award-winning film composer Bear McCreary, Emilio Kauderer, Thomas Newman, Dan Romer and Benh Zeitlin have been added to the Noche de Cine program. Dudamel will lead the LA Phil in performances of suites from McCreary's Battlestar Galactica, Kauderer's The Secret in Their Eyes, and Newman's Angels in America, and "Once There Was a Hushpuppy" from Dan Romer's Beasts of the Southern Wild score.
Gustavo Santaolalla's new album, Camino, will be released by Sony Music Masterworks on July 8.
Americas & Americans, first presented during Dudamel's inaugural 2009/10 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall and revived at the Bowl in 2012, exemplifies his vision of one American culture across continents. The festival kicks off on July 23 with a performance by Gilberto Santa Rosa, "The Gentleman of Salsa," and multifaceted percussionist Sheila E. The festival also includes a weekend program from Latin pop pioneer Gloria Estefan, performing her hits and classics from the Cuban and American songbooks (July 25 & 26), and a performance from Rubén Blades with Dudamel and the LA Phil (July 29).
