Acme Theatre Presents SCI-FEST, Hollywood's First Annual Science Fiction One-Act Play Festival, Now thru 6/1

SCI-FEST, the 1st Annual Los Angeles Science Fiction One-Act Play Festival premieres at The ACME Theatre (135 N. La Brea Avenue) featuring two different, riveting evenings ('A' and 'B' rotating weekly) of new and classic sci fi works. Evening 'A' premieres tonight, May 6. Evening 'B' premieres Tuesday, May 13. Performances will run Tuesdays - Saturdays @ 8 PM; Sundays at 3 PM through June 1, 2014.

Conceived by Writer-Actor, David Dean Bottrell, and produced by Bottrell with Michael Blaha and Lee Costello, Sci-Fest is the first of its kind in L.A., a city that Bottrell says, "has played a huge part in putting the genre of science fiction on the global map. It is our hope to grow the festival as an annual destination event for Sci-Fi fans from around the world."!!

Sci-Fest's highlights include the world premiere stage adaptation of Ursula LeGuin's mini-masterpiece, "The Wife's Story" starring Tony Award winner L. Scott Caldwell, and an innovative revival of Ray Bradbury's chilling classic, "Kaleidoscope," which, at 35 minutes in length, is the fest's centerpiece.

The plays feature actors from Sci-Fi franchises including Nelson Ascencio (The Hunger Games), David Blue ("Stargate: Universe"), David Dean Bottrell ("True Blood"), L. Scott Caldwell ("Lost"), Dean Hagland ("The X-Files"), David H. Lawrence XVII ("Heroes"), Madison McLaughlin ("Supernatural"), Julie McNiven ("Stargate: Universe" & "Supernatural"), Jasika Nicole ("Fringe"), Linda Park ("Star Trek: Enterprise"), Tim Russ ("Star Trek: Voyager), Armin Shimerman ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" & "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Faran Tahir ("Iron Man" and "Star Trek" Movie), Patricia Tallman ("Babylon 5"), and Adrienne Wilkinson ("Xena: Warrior Princess").

Evening 'A's' plays run May 6 - 11, and May 20-25. Running order will be:

"Forwarding Address" by John-Paul Nickel
Four friends receive a disturbing message from an even more disturbing messenger.
Directed by Jack Kenny ("Warehouse 13")

"Freedom of Speech" by Adam Esquenazi Douglas
A political prisoner and his automated captor struggle for ultimate control.
Directed by Jon Kroll ("Amanda and the Alien")

"The Ringer" by Minnesota Plates
The survivors of an alien invasion strike a horrifying bargain to stay alive.
Directed by Jim Fall ("Trick")

"Kaleidoscope" by Ray Bradbury
50 years before "Gravity," this terrifying, poignant tale of seven astronauts' routine mission turning deadly when their craft is destroyed, leaving them adrift in space.
Directed by Pat Towne ("Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage")

Evening 'B's' plays run May 13-18, and May 27-June 1. Running order will be:

"For The Living" by Chie-Hoon Lee
A young woman awakens after a terrible accident to discover she's not quite the person she was before. Directed by Rob Hollocks ("The Watcher")

"The Wife's Story" by Ursula K. Le Guin
A distrustful wife follows her mate into the woods only to discover a far darker secret than she ever imagined. Directed by Philippe Mora ("The Howling II & III")

"Tell Me Who You See" By Scott T. Barsotti
A young widow finds that her grief has opened a portal through which something resembling her dead husband is trying to return.
Directed by Jeff Liu ("Yellowface")

"Smooth Landings" by Soren Kisiel
An office meeting is called to determine what direction the company should take now that the entire world has been destroyed.
Directed by Steve Kaplan ("The Manhattan Punch Line").

"A-li-en The Family" by Michael Bernard
A pair of star-crossed lovers from different planets create havoc in a small town in this hilarious "live" radio play. Directed by Dan Castellaneta ("The Simpsons")
