Parson's Nose Theater (PNT), the acclaimed classical comedic theater company, will open George Bernard Shaw's Androcles and the Lion, this Saturday, October 31st at 7:00pm. This is Shaw's whimsical retelling of Aesop's fable, adapted into a 60-minute production by Artistic Director Lance Davis.
"In Androcles and the Lion, Shaw takes Aesop's fable and spins it into a discussion about religion, the state, animal rights and martyrdom, complete with a waltzing lion," explains Mr. Davis. "Christians await their fate in the Coliseum, in a Rome that is very much like London. They have just enough time for Shaw to ask us, 'What would you happily die for?'"
The Cast features Barry Gordon as Androcles and Ian Sproul as The Lion. Completing the cast are company members Jill Rogosheske as Meghaera, Marisa Chandler as Lavinia, James Calvert as Captain, Paul Perri as Ferrovius, John Harnagel as Caesar, and Lance Davis as Centurion. The design team includes sound and lighting design by Angie Vaughn, costume design by Holly Willaume, and set design by Jen Orsini.
