Two scholarships worth a total of $5,000 for teens to attend performing arts summer camps at University of California, Los Angeles and DNA Studios & Pace University in New York City were made available today by San Francisco Bay Area-based US Performing Arts (www.usperformingarts.com).

Scholarship recipients will receive one week of performing arts workshops taught by professionals working in the entertainment industry, from casting executives at the Walt Disney Company, to actors, directors and producers working in television, film and on Broadway. Recipients will choose their field of study from courses that include: acting, dance, digital film, musical theater, screen writing, playwriting, animation, costume design, gaming and college auditions. In addition to instruction, scholarship recipients will also receive complimentary accommodations, meals and a $500 transportation allowance.

Teens (13 to 18 years of age, with approval from their parents) are being invited to submit their entry to the scholarship contest on the Facebook page of US Performing Arts (www.facebook.com/uspacamps). Entry requires the submission of a photo and a one-hundred-word essay explaining why the applicant should be chosen for the scholarship. Applicants are then encouraged to promote their submission, via Facebook and Twitter, in order to get their friends and family to vote for them to win. The top ten applicants who receive the most votes (and perhaps others as determined by US Performing Arts) will be interviewed via telephone by the co-founders and Chief Executive Officer of US Performing Arts. The winners will be announced on or before May 31, 2013.

"There are too many talented young people out there who don't have an opportunity to attend a program like this," said Judith Paterson, CEO and Co-Founder of US Performing Arts. "We've developed this scholarship contest to help make this amazing level of instruction open to as many teens as possible."

The scholarship submission process begins on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 9:00 AM Pacific Time and ends on May 23, 2013 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time. Winners will be announced no later than May 31, 2013. Submission forms are available on the Scholarship Program Tab on www.facebook.com/uspacamps.
