2Cents Theatre is thrilled to present the U.S. Premiere of LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS, written by Sam Steiner and directed by Jen Bloom. LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS will preview on Saturday, January 6 at 8pm & Sunday, January 7 at 7pm and will open on Friday, January 12 at 8pm and run through Sunday, February 11 at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.
Sam Steiner's LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS explores how we communicate in our everyday lives, and how that could be affected by censorship, oppression and loss of free speech. Bernadette and Oliver are two people that meet, fall in love and move in together, like people do. But their rapidly-progressing relationship becomes more complicated when the government introduces a draconian hush law giving everyone a daily limit of just 140 words each. They come up with ways to communicate with each other within the constraints of the law, but how can you know someone in just 140? Without words and the freedom to use them, are we completely powerless?
LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS was first performed at the Warwick Arts Centre in January 2015, produced by Walrus. It subsequently transferred to the National Student Drama Festival in March 2015, where it won three awards, including judges' commendations for writing and direction. The production visited Latitude Festival in July before a sell-out run at Zoo Southside at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and transferred to Camden People's Theatre on 24 November 2015.
