Fans of horror, mixed-media, and local, female-led theatre will delight in the world premiere of YELLOW WALLPAPER by playwright and director Denise M. Barrett. Adapted from Charlotte Perkins Gilman's famous 1892 feminist short story of the same name, it chronicles a young woman's descent into madness.
Set in the 1950s America, a fragile Jane is taken to a remote Victorian house by her well-meaning doctor husband to recover from her nerves. Trapped in the attic on a rest cure for an entire summer, instead of growing well, Jane slowly loses her mind. Surrounded by torturing yellow wallpaper, she is haunted by a figure in the design who she is determined to set free. Using a blend of live action and animation, YELLOW WALLPAPER, brings Jane's creepy physiological struggle to life on stage.
This ensemble features Tatum Langton as JANE, Matt Hudacs as JOHN, Bailey Sorrel as JENNY, Evette Murphy as MOM, Danielle Stout as NELLY, Ava and Alyssa Quimby as THE GIRLS.
This is Denise M. Barrett's first time participating at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and she is excited to become a part of the Los Angeles Theater community. Barrett is a born and raised Montanan and has always had a passion for writing, storytelling, and creativity. After graduating from Montana State University, she moved to Los Angeles where she has been a resident for the past five years. She has worked as a costume assistant on several reality TV shows as well as at BBA Talent Agency in Burbank.
