Employing elements of his hybrid style, Maurice Brandon Curry gives a fresh interpretation to the music of Ray Charles in a narrative work composed of classical ballet, theater dance and contemporary movement. Also on the program, Takehiro Ueyama’s internationally acclaimed Sakura Sakura, which translates to “cherry blosson,” pays tribute to the beauty and strength of Japanese women. The students of the Department of Dance perform these pieces along with original and restaged works by their distinguished faculty.
