The Federal Theatre Project (FTP): ten thousand theatre artists, nine hundred productions, the largest theatrical organization in the history of the world with productions seen by one quarter of the entire American population–destroyed and defunded by conservative forces in Congress for asking too many inconvenient questions and showing how America really was during its time, the Great Depression. America has never had a national theatre since.
Living Newspaper, using the format of the FTP’s unique and signature style, tells the story of the FTP and the battle of Hallie Flanagan, its founder and head, to avoid the destruction of America’s most honest theatrical voice. Featuring the students of the Department of Theatre.
