The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra concert season runs from October to July every year. Founded in 1936 as the Palestine Orchestra, the orchestra performs under maestro Zubin Mehta at Tel Aviv University's Smolarz Auditorium, while the Mann Auditorium undergoes renovation.
The orchestra was founded by a Polish violinist, Bronislaw Hunerman, who had immigrated to Palestine. With the independence of Israel, the orchestra changed its name and by 1992 had performed some 10,000 concerts around the world.
