The UK's symphonic rockers, Procol Harum, perform at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday, July 13 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $75, $90, $100 and can be purchased online at www.whbpac.org.
Best known for their international smash hit, "A Whiter Shade of Pale," and thanks to follow-up hits, "Conquistador" and "Salty Dog," Procol Harum have become one of the most beloved bands to ever come out of the UK. The band continues to go strong with singer/pianist/composer and founding member, Gary Brooker still at the helm. Their new double CD, Inside/Outside celebrates more than forty years of studio and live recordings.
You could not be blamed for thinking that, with the monumental success of Procol's first smash hit, the band just stopped there. Even the recently-awarded accolade of "most-played single of the past seventy-five years" has not quelled their need to go forward: hence 2014's new live album. The quality of writing and performance has remained Procol Harum's gold standard through the gradually-mutating line-ups: each participating musician has kept the ideas flowing and prevented Procol from resting on their laurels.
Music fans of founding member Gary Brooker have also appreciated his excellent work with such artists as George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Kate Bush, Wings, Mickey Jupp and even Lonnie Donegan. Brooker is still happy performing Procol's classic hits and crowd-pleasers, yet there is always a mix of new or rare songs on the setlist to titillate the legion of fans who follow the band more than casually. Procol Harum rocks on, in all their splendor: a galleon in full sail and soul.
