Riverside Opera Company to Open Holiday Season with 'poPera' Concert, 11/29

The Riverside Opera Company opens the holiday season on Saturday, November 29, 8 p.m. at the Music Hall at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden with poPera from Nessun Dorma to "Let it Go" from Disney's Frozen is a Home for the Holidays musical feast. Tickets are available at http://poPera14.brownpapertickets.com.

The performance warms the musical soul with popular opera arias by Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini and Wagner along with some popular American favorites. This concert features world class award winning singers plus a full 50 piece-symphonic orchestra conducted by Maestro Alan Aurelia.

The performance features performers Andrea Fleming, Anita Lyons, William Barone, Michele Trovato and Galeano Salas.

About the artists:

Galeano Salas

Galeano Salas is a Texas native who grew up in Mexico City. He is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. Upcoming roles include Rodolfo in La bohème and Faust in Faust. Salas most recently sang the roles of Alfredo in La traviata and German in Pique Dame. Recent performances include covering Stage Manager in Ned Rorem's Our Town as a member of Central City Opera's Bonfils-Stanton Apprentice Artist program. Also, Vaudémont in Iolanta and Tebaldo in I Capuleti e I Montecchi at the historic Shubert Theater with Yale Opera. Salas placed second at the 2014 National Classical Singer Competition. He was a finalist at both Lois Alba and Opera Index Inc. competitions. He holds a MM from Yale University and a BM from the University of Houston.

Michelle Trovato

Most recently, soprano Michelle Trovato was hailed as "vocally outstanding" by The Washington Post for her company debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with DC Public Opera. This prize-winning young soprano has won awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Liederkranz Foundation, Marie Kraja International Opera Competition, Opera Les Azuriales, and the Concorso Internazionale "P. Cappuccilli". Other credits include: Seattle Opera, Opera Colorado, Utah Festival Opera, the Caramoor Festival, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Jackson Symphony, Spokane Symphony, Stamford Symphony, Symphonic Orchestra of Tirana (Albania), the Crimea Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), and the Kennedy Center. Notable opera roles include: the title roles in Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda and Lucia di Lammermoor, Violetta (La Traviata), Mimì (La Bohème), Liu (Turandot), Nedda (I Pagliacci), and Micaela (Carmen)

William Barone, Tenor

William Barone, recently featured in the Richmond County Orchestra Happy Birthday Bill, a tribute to Shakespeare's 450th birthday, is a Brooklyn tenor with a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from Temple University College of Music in Philadelphia. A stalwart performer with and supporter of our own Riverside Opera Company as well as a Liederkranz Wagner Competition finalist, he has also starred in such venues as the Wagner Opera Theater, the Pennsylvania Opera Festival, the Shreveport Symphony, and the Grace Choral Society.

Anita Lyons

American soprano Anita Lyons is delighted to be returning to the Riverside Opera Company, where she was a guest artist on the Concerto di Primavera for Flag Day orchestra concert at St. John's University in June. Ms. Lyons is quickly creating a niche for herself in the dramatic repertoire, most recently performing the Strauss'Vier Letzer Lieder with the Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra. This season has also already included the title role of La Gioconda and the Primadonna/Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), both performed at Lincoln Center with New York Opera Forum. Upcoming engagements include the title roles of Norma and Elektra, as well as Brünnhilde (Siegfried), and Giorgetta (Il Tabarro) with New York Opera Forum. Ms. Lyons will also be seen in concert with Boheme Opera NJ in a program of the music of Richard Wagner.
