Siân Phillips and Simon Jones have been added to the cast of the Bay Street Theatre's upcoming Quartet. They will join the previously-announced Kaye Ballard (The Golden Apple, The Pirates of Penzance) and Tony-nominee Paul Hecht (Noises Off, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) in the Ronald Harwood play, running from May 23rd through June 4th.
"In a home for retired opera stars, a celebration for Verdi's birthday is
fast approaching. Three former colleagues are at hilarious odds . . .
not over the section they plan to sing at the celebration, but over the
arrival of the newest resident, a diva with whom they once sang the
celebrated 'Quartet,'" according to the website of the theatre, which is located in Sag Harbor, Long Island. Tony Award-winner
Jack Hofsiss (
The Elephant Man) will direct the play, which is by the author of
The Dresser and others.
Phillips received a Tony nomination for her performance in the title role of
Dietrich, and also appeared on Broadway in
An Inspector Calls. The Age of Innocence, Valmont, Clash of the Titans and the mini-series "I, Claudius" are among her many film and TV credits. Jones has been seen on Broadway in
Waiting in the Wings, Ring Round the Moon, the School for Scandal, Private Lives, The Real Thing and more.
