Patchogue Theatre & Pat-Med Library Form New Partnership

Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Patchogue-Medford Library (PMLIB). The partnership between the two community-based nonprofit organizations will expand lobby programming to the literary arts with "Library in the Lobby" (LITL), a new series aimed at providing an interactive experience for readers and writers alike with access to authors and their works, writing workshops and more to broaden the local arts and literary scene of the Greater Patchogue area.

"We are proud to partner with our neighbor, the Patchogue-Medford Library," said John Ashline, executive director of Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts. "After the great success of our author event in October with mummy expert Dr. Bob Brier and receiving numerous requests for another event, we realized the literary arts were underserved in Patchogue and there was a niche to be filled. It was a natural choice to have the Library join us in this endeavor; a good pairing of public and private entities working together to educate and entertain the public."

"Library in the Lobby" joins Patchogue Theatre's robust and unique lobby programming, which includes "Laughter in the Lobby," live comedy in Patchogue featuring Long Island and New York City comedians for a low cost ($10 tickets); "The New Musicals Project," Long Island playwrights and musicians performing original musical theater works; and "Live in the Lobby," which pays Long Island musicians to perform their own original music (rather than covers) for a live audience. Heralded by The New York Times as "...a felicitous space for music listening," "Live in the Lobby" is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this January. Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts has truly become a "venue within a venue."

"We are delighted to partner with Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts to increase literary events available to our area. Being able to increase our offerings with the help of incredibly creative professionals in such a renowned venue, is a wonderful addition to our current programs," said Lauren Nichols, director at the Patchogue-Medford Library. "Providing access to writers and thought leaders is a fantastic way to cultivate community growth and engagement."

The first "Library in the Lobby" event will be in the new year on Sunday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m., and will feature a book discussion & signing with Long Island University (LIU) political philosophy professor and author Michael Soupios, Ph.D. Soupios will give a 45-minute lecture on his latest book, "The Ten Golden Rules of Leadership: Classical Wisdom for Modern Leaders" (AMACOM), co-authored with LIU economics professor Panos Mourdoukoutas, Ph.D.

With eight graduate degrees, including four doctoral degrees, Soupios is a modern day renaissance man. He has written six books on the subject of political philosophy and is currently writing a seventh book. "Ten Golden Rules" answers today's workplace leadership questions through the wisdom of classic thinkers such as Aristotle, Heraclitus and Sophocles. This is an event for anyone looking to strengthen their leadership skills in the workplace and beyond. More information on "Ten Golden Rules" can be found on Amazon.com. A question and answer session and book signing with the author will follow the lecture.

Future "Library in the Lobby" events in Feb., March and April will be announced in the coming weeks.

There is no admission charge for "Library in the Lobby." Reservations are strongly encouraged as there is limited seating, which is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
