Pandora Productions Announces 2010-11 Lineup

Pandora Productions is thrilled to announce the lineup for its upcoming 2010-2011 theatrical season, a new season that promises to be a lively, entertainment and excitement-filled experience as only Pandora can present! Not only do we have five fresh, fun-filled productions (plus two added attractions...more on those below), we have all new venues for each production...consider it your very own Pandora-exclusive tour of Louisville's best theatre locations! All from the theatre company that always goes ‘Beyond Broadway' to present rarely seen productions.

The new season kicks off with Howard Crabtree's side-splitting musical and costume extravaganza WHEN PIGS FLY, a dream-autobiography in which career counselor Ms. Roundhole thinks that plumbing, watch-making, chicken farming or selling gardening supplies are the only suitable career choices for Howard as he would only be a success in theater "when pigs fly." Wild, brilliantly funny songs and sketches include "Not All Man" as sung by a Centaur; torch songs "cocktail style" for the love of the Republican Party's ‘Conservative Coalition'; the head of a small time community theater called "The Melody Barn" with coming attractions that include a new musical called "Quasimodo" featuring the song "I've Got a Hunch I'm In Love"; and "Bigger Is Better" with a Mae West-type strutting around in typically sassy style.

Let's do "The Time Warp" again...AND AGAIN...AND AGAIN! You've danced to it in your living room, performed it at parties, dressed as the characters for Halloween, and you absolutely loved it when we presented it during our 2009-2010 season...that's why we're bringing it back as an added attraction with a special limited run during Halloween Week! THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW with book, music & lyrics by Richard O'Brien, is the madcap story of an ordinary, middle-class couple and one unforgettable night at the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a mad scientist from the planet Transexual. Lead characters Brad and Janet have arrived on a very special night, that of the creation of Dr. Furter's ‘beautiful creature' Rocky, the Adonis humanoid created specifically for the release of the good doctor's ‘tension'. This cult classic is a non-stop, action-packed package of twisted romance, thrills and chills, and 16 sensational songs including "Dammit Janet," "Sweet Transvestite," "Whatever Happened To Saturday Night?" and the now-classic karaoke anthem, "The Time Warp".

A naughty restoration romp meets contemporary sex farce in David Grimm's MEASURE FOR PLEASURE. Set in 1751, Measure for Pleasure concerns the romantic couplings of a host of nobles and servants. Sir Peter Lustforth has had enough of his wife's amorous ways and casts his eye on the virginal Hermione - setting off a series of chaotic chases and couplings amongst a womanizer, a transvestite, a puritanical dame and a helplessly romantic valet. Obstacles to Lustforth's pursuit include Hermione's strict guardian, Dame Stickle and a friendly rival, Captain Dick Dashwood. Richly endowed with mistaken identities and abundant verbal delights, Measure for Pleasure is a saucy, silly, foul and filthy treat. Grimm has the gift for clever wordplay frequently resulting in mischievous, risqué sexual double-entendres, and occasionally adding dialogue in rhymed couplets.

THE GLBTQ YOUTH PROJECT, a Pandora Original Staged Reading. Playwright Kevin DelPrincipe and Pandora's Artistic Director Michael Drury create a piece of theatre that will enlighten the broader community on issues that face GLBTQ Youth. Through meetings, conversations and writing workshops, this project will feature youth from partnering organizations who have committed their members and their time. This special collaboration between the University of Louisville's commonGround LGBTQQIA Organization and The Louisville Youth Group unites both organizations to share their unique stories. The writing from the workshops and interviews will then be formulated into a staged reading piece.

This added attraction, Phase 1 of a 2-phase project, is free to regular season subscribers.

Love, friendship and mutual respect - with lamb and a little mint sauce - are all on the menu for THE DINNER by Sandy Richard. The Smiths and the Jones are gay in this warm hearted comedy about two couples who have been friends for years. The recent breakup of Amy and Chris after twelve years together has put a strain on the four for the last three months and the Jones have grown weary of being in the middle of the split. Amy's new romance with a local DJ and a single Chris constantly moping around their home doesn't help. In an effort to get Chris off the couch and back into the dating world, Kevin and Todd invite Lauren, a cute single co-worker to dinner to meet her. When Amy and her new amour show up with a bottle of wine in hand and crash the dinner party unexpectedly, trouble follows as words, emotions and food flies.

The one-liners fly like rockets in THE NEW CENTURY, a provocative and outrageous comedy with heart by Paul Rudnick, the author of Jeffrey and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. Helene brags on her three gay sons at her Long Island chapter of POLGBTQCCCO: Parents of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, The Transgendered, The Questioning, The Curious, The Creatively Concerned and Others. Mr. Charles, on the other hand, after the new gay order of NYC exiles him, now spends his time with a hunka-hunka burnin' love named Shane, with whom he produces a cable TV show called Too Gay? On the other side of the world Midwestern Barbara, a competitive cake decorator and craftswoman, creates cute crafts to honor her gay son. When the three drastically different characters collide, expect a lot of laughs tossed with a hefty dose of poignancy.

Just the ticket to make the world seem fabulous again, ZANNA DON'T! with book, music & lyrics by Tim Acito, is set in a world where homosexuality is the norm, and heterosexuals are considered an oddity. The town is called Heartsville, the story is a fairy tale; at least that's what the audience is told by the glitter-bedecked fey lead, a love sleuth with a magic wand. He's a student at Heartsville High where the male heroes are chess players and the ‘in' girls are on the mechanical-bull-riding team. In Heartsville, boys fall in love with boys, girls with girls, and heterosexual affairs are disgusting. It's a new school year at Heartsville High, matchmaker Zanna is doing what he does best - matching up couples to make sure that no one suffers from extra love, but things go tragically wrong when the school's two closeted heterosexuals realize their feelings for each other. Knowing that their forbidden love will make them outcasts, they turn to Zanna for help, and Zanna is forced to put his own happiness on the line to make the world safe for those he loves. A world much like our own and the chaos that ensues when people love who they want to, gay or straight. It's a clever device that moves us poignantly away from fairy tale and into the real world.
