Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center will present the Long Island premiere of Tracy Letts', Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning August: Osage County, from Thursday, March 20 through April 6,, 2014 at SCC's Levitas Center for the Arts.
August: Osage County, the darkly comedic and dysfunctional drama by Tracy Letts was the recipient of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago and made its Broadway debut, in 2007, at the Imperial Theater, transferred to the Music Box Theatre and closed after 648 performances. August: Osage County was the winner of 5 Tony Awards, including Best Play, Leading Actress and Director.
August: Osage County takes place in the Weston home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma of Beverly, a once well-known poet - now missing - and his wife, Violet, an addictive and manipulative matriarch. The Weston daughters, Barbara, Karen and Ivy, assemble, with their significant others, when alerted of Beverly's disappearance. What ensues are three wicked weeks of secrets unveiled, truths uncovered and beliefs shattered.The film adaptation starred Oscar nominated Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
