Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder & Executive Producer; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director; Elliot Fox, Managing Director), in association with Ted Snowdon, launches its 26th season the New York premiere of Secrets of the Trade by Jonathan Tolins. With direction by Matt Shakman, the five-member cast features Amy Aquino as Joanne Lipman, Bill Brochtrup as Bradley, John Glover as Martin Kerner, Mark Nelson as Peter Lipman and Noah Robbins as Andrew Lipman.
Performances begin Tuesday, July 27, 2010 for a limited run through Saturday, September 4, 2010 at
Primary Stages at
59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Opening night is set for Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
In show business, it's all about who you know. Or is it? Andy Lipman, a smart, ambitious kid from Long Island dreams of a career on Broadway and hopes that his idol, theater legend Martin Kerner, can give it to him. Will Kerner open Andy's door to success, or will their complicated relationship force him to question a life in the theater?
Secrets of the Trade received its world premiere in 2008 at the Black Dahlia Theatre in Los Angeles directed by Matt Shakman and featured
Amy Aquino,
Bill Brochtrup and
John Glover and received the 2009 GLAAD Award for Best New Play and was named by The L.A. Times as one of the "10 Best '08." Variety declared, "Flawless production." While Back
Stage West stated, "Critic's Pick...Meticulously crafted, exceedingly clever...A major theatrical event." L.A. Weekly simply stated, "Go!"
The creative team includes Mark Worthington (Set), Mike Durst (Lights), and
John Gromada (Sound). The Production Stage Manager is
Sarah Caddell.
Secrets of the Trade will play the following performance schedule: Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 3:00 p.m. on August 1, 8 & 15, and Wednesday matinees at 2:00 p.m. on August 18, 25 & September 1. Following the public performances on August 12 & 19, there are special "Artist/Audience Talkbacks" for the attendees of those performances.

The special Pay What You Can ticket offer (now in its third season at

Primary Stages continues its 26th season with the world premiere of a new musical In Transit with book, music and lyrics by
Kristen Anderson-Lopez,
James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan and
Sara Wordsworth under the direction of
Joe Calarco (September 21 - October 30, 2010). The season concludes with the world premiere of a new comedy, Black Tie, by
A.R. Gurney directed by
Mark Lamos (January 25 - March 5, 2011).
