Perseverance Theatre's lively stage adaptation of the beloved Dickens' classic is only at the PAC. It features live music, singing, and dancing along with gorgeous sets and costumes. And of course, ghosts! A Christmas Carol, adapted from Charles Dickens' original text by Arlitia Jones and Michael Evan Haney, brings magic, music, and transformation when Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Anchorage's Kevin T. Bennett, is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Dickens reminds us that it's never to late to change. Alaska Dispatch News says Perseverance Theatre's A Christmas Carol has "A gorgeous set, ambitious sound effects, and excellent acting."
  • A Christmas Carol, runs December 16-29, with one Pay-As-You-Can preview on December 15, in the Discovery Theatre at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Tickets for A Christmas Carol are $19.25 - $53.75 and are available online atCENTERTIX.NET or by calling 907-263-ARTS. Rush Tickets will be available for $15 and $20 starting a half hour before curtain for each performance.
In 2014, Perseverance Theatre commissioned Arlitia Jones (Come to Me, Leopards, Rush at Everlasting) and Michael Evan Haney (Associate Artist at Cincinnati Playhouse in The Park) create an adaptation with the goal of staying true to Dickens' novel and language. Haney says A Christmas Carol is the "second greatest story ever told," and continues, "Dickens' use of language rivals Shakespeare's-and I think his storytelling surpasses Shakespeare's. Dickens' stories are populated by characters who are just so memorable. And real: everyone has known a Scrooge." Jones says, "A Christmas Carol tells the truth about us in a very fundamental way. Deep down we are kind and generous and our need to receive love is as strong as our need to give love. I think we all have a Christmas Carol moment in our lives."

The play is directed by Tom Robenolt (Not Medea, Othello), based on the original direction of Michael Evan Haney. Robenolt performed in A Christmas Carol in its first Perseverance Theatre production. The show will have choreography by Kristen Vierthaler and sound and music design by Lucy Peckham (An Iliad, Annapurna). The design team also includes Perseverance Artistic Director Art Rotch designing the set, Becky Lasky designing costumes, Jim Sale designing lights, and stage management by Chris Schweiger.
