The Community Theatre of Little Rock presents its spring production of Ron Hutchinson's comedy Moonlight and Magnolias. Show dates are April 27 and 28, May 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and April 29, May 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. to be held at The Public Theatre, located at 616 Center Street, next to Horn’s Men’s Store in downtown Little Rock, Ark.
1939 Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick (Mark Troillett) has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel. The screenplay, you see, just doesn’t work. So what’s an all-powerful movie mogul to do? While fending off the film’s stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht (Danny Troillett) and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming (Tom Crone) from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint of one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.
Cast and crew include Mark Troillett as David O. Selznick, Tom Crone as Victor Flemming, Danny Troillett as Ben Hecht and Brooke Ballew as Miss Poppenghul. Moonlight and Magnolias is co-directed by Chris Boggs and Liz Turner, with stage manager Tamara Murry and Tamara and Jo Murry as producers. Voice-overs are provided by Randall Earnest, Terry Harrison, Maxx Blanford and Michael Harmon.
Regular admission is $14 for adults and $12 for military, students and seniors age 65 and over. Groups of ten or more can get in for $12. Children age six and under are given free admission. Bring a pair of gently used running shoes and receive $1.00 off your admission.
The Moonlight and Magnolias cast has scheduled a "Pocket Preview" of the show April 26 at 7:30 p.m. On this one night, admission is whatever the patron can pay. CTLR’s “Pocket Previews” are actually final dress rehearsals that are open to the public. No admission is required, but donations to support the theatre are accepted.
