Broadway In The HOOD Brings The Beat This Weekend With
Hairspray Live In Las Vegas!
The beat of a whole new era explodes with spectacular fun and energy galore as Broadway In The HOOD presents the "Big Fat Musical Sensation" HAIRSPRAY, running July 19th & 20th at UNLV’s Judy Bayley Theatre. Welcome to the 60s!
HAIRSPRAY is set in Baltimore in 1962 and is a gentle social commentary and joyous celebration of the integrations of black and white, young and old, rock and soul, entitled and not.
The storyline is driven by Tracy Turnblad, a plus-size passionate high schooler who dances her way onto the popular Corny Collins teen tv show and uses her newly acquired fame to change the world. Tracy’s quest for justice and fairness lands her in jail, but also lands her a boyfriend, a spokes-girl contract, and a whole lotta popularity. Musical and cultural history is made, dreams come true, and a rousing celebration brings the audience to their feet.
Broadway In The HOOD’s production brings a few new, fun twists to this now classic musical. The music is front-and-center, in-your-face, undeniably fantastic, and the Judy Bayley Theatre is the perfect place for you and the entire family to come out and experience the high energy, theatrical extravaganza that is Hairspray! Every song is fun, comforting and infectious, from “Good Morning Baltimore”, to “Welcome To The 60s,” and everything in-between “You Can’t Stop The Beat” as this wonderful cast of 60+ local kids takes the stage for 2 Big Fat performances July 19th at 7pm & July 20th at 2pm!
