The Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV closes their 2006-07 season with a rousing revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown directed by Glen Casale, to open April 20. Based on Charles M. Schulz's comic strip Peanuts, the musical is an average day in the life of Charlie Brown as he and his friends Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, and Sally share their hopes and dreams.
The book, music and lyrics are by Clark Gesner, with additional dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. The original musical opened in 1967 with Gary Burghoff playing Charlie Brown.
The play was revived briefly in 1971 and then a new revival version was presented in 1999. The revised version has Sally Brown joining the cast and has two new songs, "Beethoven Day" and "My New Philosophy." Some of the 12 songs in the original version are "My Blanket and Me," "The Kite," "The Baseball Game," "Little Known Facts," "Suppertime and Happiness."
A post-show discussion (moderated by Dave McGinnis) follows the April 26 performance, with the actors and members of the production staff about You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
