Universally hailed as one of the finest and most influential vocal groups in doo-wop music, The Flamingos will bring their timeless hits to the Suncoast Showroom Sept. 5 and 6.
The Flamingos consists of original band member and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Terry "Buzzy" Johnson, Starling Newsome Jr., Stan Prinston and Theresa Trigg. In 1956, the quintet received their first national hit when "I'll Be Home" reached #5 on Billboard's R&B chart.
Some of the group's other prominent tracks are: "Nobody Loves Me Like You," "Time Was," "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" and "Your Other Love." The doo-wop group is best known for their cover version of "I Only Have Eyes for You," which reached #11 on Billboard's Hot 100. The song became the group's greatest seller and has been featured in numerous movies and television shows.
The Flamingos received the Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Award in 1996 and was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Doo-Wop Hall of Fame in 2004.
