When you mention the word "Titanic", two images usually come to mind. The sinking ship, and the movie about the sinking ship. There's even a musical about the sinking ship. Christopher Durang also wrote a play called "Titanic"....which really doesn't seem to have much to do with the sinking ship at all! But you can always expect something out of the ordinary with Christopher Durang!
"Titanic" by Christopher Durang was first performed in 1974, and involves the Tammurais family, who are traveling aboard the Titanic. We have the Father, the Mother, the Brother, and the Sister. Or, is she the Captain's Daughter? There are sexual antics, mistaken identities, bizarre character twists, and hilarious commentary on American society. Strangeness abounds in this madcap farce, which the author himself describes as "funny, perverse, and silly." The New York Times dubbed the play "...a non-stop flow of outrageous jokes, puns, and burlesque byplays." The New Yorker declared "Titanic" to be "...a merry and (innocently) obscene farce."
Las Vegas Little Theatre is set to unleash Christopher Durang's "Titanic" in the Virlis and Bernice Fischer Black Box . Directed by TJ Larsen, the talented cast features Penni Mendez, Andrew Lalama, Joe Hammond, Susannah Smitherman, Joel Wayman, and Scott Autrey.
