The Orleans Showroom presents music legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® inductee Leon Russell on October 22 and 23 at 8 p.m.
Over the span of a 50-year career in music, Russell has played on, arranged, written and produced some of the best known records in music history. He has collaborated with hundreds of artists, including Glen Campbell, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, Edgar Winter, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr. Born in Oklahoma, Russell began playing in Tulsa nightclubs at the age of 14 and in the ‘60s became part of an elite group of studio musicians contributing to hit records. As a songwriter and musician, he has worked with a diverse range of artists, hitting the charts on all music genres. His songwriting credits include such hits as Ray Charles' "A Song for You," "Hummingbird" by B.B. King, The Carpenters' "Superstar," and Joe Cocker's "Delta Lady." George Benson's 1976 cover of "The Masquerade" won the Record of the Year Grammy Award® and became the first song to No. 1 on jazz, pop and R&B charts.
