Majestic Repertory Theatre is excited to present the regional premiere of Chicago playwright Will Kern's KID SISTER, a pulp thriller straight from the pages of the Weekly World News.
Demi, a perpetually stoned 19-year-old single mom and American Idol wannabe, believes only one thing stands between herself and singing superstardom-her stalker ex-boyfriend. To get this psycho out of her life forever, she elicits the aid of her brother Cassius, recently returned from a stretch in prison. But ex-con Cassius wants more than she's willing to give- custody of her newborn baby girl. This thrilling Southern Gothic-noir gives a new spin on classic dime store crime novels.
"I'd been a fan of Will's plays since I directed his play HELLCAB years ago," says Artistic Director Troy Heard. "We started a long distance artistic relationship after that and he sent me a stack of his scripts. KID SISTER has always stuck out for me because of its white trash aesthetic - it reminds me of home. There's definitely a Tarantino vibe to this show."
KID SISTER continues Majestic Rep's "revolutionary" second season, which focuses on hot topics effecting today's America. Following the fiftieth anniversary production of HAIR: THE AMERICAN TRIBAL LOVE-ROCK MUSICAL, KID SISTER shines a light on the starving class and will speak to their glam-rock production of MARIE ANTOINETTE coming next spring. Other shows in the season include ANIMAL FARM, AN OCTOROON and the sci-fi world premiere SENTIENCE.
Performances of KID SISTER will be September 28th through October 14th, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. Majestic Repertory Theatre performs at 1217 S. Main Street. General admission tickets are $25 and are on sale now at www.majesticrepertory.com. Call 702-423-6366 for details.
