Majestic Concludes 2017-18 Season With George Orwell's ANIMAL FARM Image

Majestic Repertory Theatre concludes their second season in the Las Vegas Arts District with a fresh adaptation by Ian Wooldridge of George Orwell's stunning novella ANIMAL FARM.

After revolting against the reign of their negligent human master, the animals of Mr. Jones's Manor Farm create their own ideal society in which all animals are equal and rules are set by democratic vote. It all works well, until the allure of power leads the animals to a chilling fate. ANIMAL FARM illustrates how new tyranny replaces old and power corrupts even the noblest of causes.

"Although it seems that every middle schooler has read the book, Orwell originally had much trouble finding a publisher," says Artistic Director Troy Heard, "Even though the Russian Revolution of 1917 and its bleak aftermath were still in recent memory, British editors were reticent to upset the tenuous alliance between England and the Soviets. However, once it was released, Orwell was sent into to the stratosphere of literary stardom and Animal Farm found universal relevance in any society where totalitarianism lurks. We still cringe when lines are said during rehearsals that sounds like echoes from a certain infamous Twitter feed."

To create the unique world of Orwell's self-proclaimed "fairy story," Heard collaborated with movement director Jason Nious (Cirque du Soleil) to develop the anthropomorphic staging for the actors, STOMP, Molodi) and composer Peter Fand (Cirque du Soleil, BAZ) who wrote original songs using Orwell's text as lyrics.

George Orwell's ANIMAL FARM concludes Majestic Rep's "revolutionary" second season, which focused on hot topics effecting today's America, following the fiftieth anniversary production of HAIR: THE AMERICAN TRIBAL LOVE-ROCK MUSICAL, the thrilling AN OCTOROON, and the critically acclaimed MARIE ANTOINETTE.

Performances of George Orwell's ANIMAL FARM will be May 17 through June 3, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. Majestic Repertory Theatre is located at at 1217 S. Main Street. General admission tickets are $25 and high school students are $15, and are on sale now at www.majesticrepertory.com. Call 702-423-6366 for details.
