Several legends of West Coast hip hop will bring their chart-topping hits to the Orleans Arena at the Las Vegas West Fest, presented by AAA Promotions and Q 100.5, on Friday, April 7.
Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, West Coast hip hop dominated the rap music scene and gained incredible popularity as a genre. As the genre's following grew, artists from Compton, Calif. and the San Francisco Bay Area created names for themselves as early contributors to the rise of West Coast rap music.
Ice Cube began his musical career in the controversial and uncensored rap group N.W.A. with Dr. Dre and Eazy-E. Together the group released "Straight Outta Compton," a double-Platinum album that helped bring West Coast hip hop into the mainstream. As a solo artist, Ice Cube continued to deliver his hard-hitting rap songs in albums like "Lethal Injection" and "The Predator." Aside from his music, Ice Cube has also enjoyed a successful career as an actor and filmmaker.
Early in his career, Bay Area rapper E-40 started his own record label, Sick Wid' It, where he released his music independently. Jive Records took notice of his music's increasing popularity and E-40 became one of the first Bay Area rappers to get signed to a major label. E-40 has went on to release numerous chart-topping hits like "U And Dat," "Tell Me When To Go" and "Things'll Never Change/Rapper's Ball."
Too $hort is recognized as a pioneer of West Coast hip hop and is best known for his hit songs "The Ghetto" and "Blow the Whistle." He began as an underground rap artist where he produced hits like "Born to Mack" and "Get In Where You Fit In." Too $hort is one of the few hip hop artist to collaborate with both 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G., and is currently working to release his 20th album in May.
Rounding out the show's lineup are DJ Quik, Tha Dogg Pound, Rodney O and Joe Cooley.
