The Las Vegas Philharmonic and Cox Las Vegas congratulated the four honorees of the 2018-19 season Cox Communications Young Artists' Concerto Competition on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The presentation took place prior to the orchestra's An Evening With Brahms concert. The students, Carolyn Salvador (violin), Shyler Macaggi (viola), Young Choe (cello) and Chloe Kim (viola) were acknowledged on Reynolds Hall stage and were each presented with $750 scholarships toward their music education by Keith Wingate with Cox Communications and by Lacey Huszcza, Las Vegas Philharmonic executive director. All four students had the opportunity to perform for nearly 2,000 guests at the Philharmonic's concert that evening. Over the last year, each honoree received mentoring by the Las Vegas Philharmonic Music Director, Donato Cabrera, musicians and staff, designed to provide them with opportunities to continue developing their performance skills while gaining invaluable experience and exposure.
The competition was held on May 12, 2018 at the College of Southern Nevada, Cheyenne Campus. Carolyn Salvador (13) attends West Career & Technical Academy and performed Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major (I. Allegro). Shyler Macaggi (14), studies at Green Valley High School and performed Stamitz's Viola Concerto in D Major (3rd movement). Young Choe (14) attends Hyde Park Middle School and performed Bach's Viola Concert in C Minor (1st movement). Chloe Kim (14), studies at Clark High School and performed Saint-Saens's Cello Concerto (1st movement).
"Creative expression through the arts is an essential component of humankind," said Michael Bolognini, vice president and market leader of Cox Las Vegas. And that's why Cox Communications is committed to supporting music education as exclusive sponsor of the Young Artists' Concerto Competition."
The Young Artists' Concerto Competition sponsored by Cox Communications has been a key component of the orchestra's youth education and community outreach since 1999 and affords young artists opportunities to connect with students attending the Las Vegas Philharmonic's free annual Youth Concert Series, which has reached 250,000 school children to date. The 2019-20 Cox Communications Young Artists' Concerto Competition will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 and applications are now being accepted at https://www.lvphil.org/education/competition/.

We look forward to seeing you flourish in your own music careers. And who knows - maybe in a few years, you will be performing on stage with our Las Vegas Philharmonic!"
