Straight from Japan, punk rock band Guitar Wolf, comes to Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip on Tuesday, May 31 with special guest Cheap Time.
The trio that is Guitar Wolf plays loud, fast, dirty punk rock music that can only be described as an energetic cross between The Ramones, rockabilly and garage rock. Formed in Japan in the late 80's, the band is known for songs with piercing vocals and an extremely loud style of noise-influenced punk which emphasizes Heavy Distortion and feedback. Their first two albums gained a lot of traction by word of mouth and as word traveled about the bands incendiary live shows, the band's popularity grew outside of Japan. Their next two releases, "Wolf Rock" and "Kung Fu Ramone" were distributed in the U.S., leading to an in-store appearance in New York which impressed Matador Records and landed the band a contract on the label. "Missile Me!" released in 1996 was the band's first release on their prestigious new indie label. The following year the band embarked on a 34 date American Tour and signed with Sony Music Japan's Ki/oon Records Division.
Many years and albums later, Guitar Wolf has gained recognition internationally, performing at sold-out shows and festivals all over the world including Japan, England, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, France, and across North and South America.. They have released nine studio albums as well as a live album and a compilation album called "Golden Black". Guitar Wolf has been featured in Maximum Rock ‘N Roll Magazine and Rolling Stone, as well as making appearances in two science fiction horror movies. These busy noise-mongers are perhaps on of the most rockin' bands on the planet and put on a wonderfully chaotic live show like no other.
