Mencia began his career in Los Angeles doing stand-up on amateur night at the famous L.A. comedy club the Laugh Factory. He was later showcased at The Comedy Store, where he began performing nightly. After enjoying success on the L.A. comedy circuit, Mencia was named International Comedy Grand Champion from Buscando Estrellas (the Latino version of Star Search).
In 2002, he received a CableACE Award nomination for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special for his HBO special, and was featured on "Comedy Central Presents." His show "Mind of Mencia" debuted on Comedy Central in 2005 and became an instant hit. "Mind of Mencia" was one of the most-watched shows in the network's history, averaging about 1.5 million total viewers per episode. Comedy Central signed Mencia back for his own original stand-up special, "Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached" in 2006.
Mencia also starred opposite Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan in the feature film, "The Heartbreak Kid" in 2007. His latest Comedy Central stand-up special, "Carlos Mencia: New Territory" debuted in 2011. His podcast, titled "Laughin' and Livin'," can be heard on his website.
