The Caesars Foundation committed $150,000 to help expand operations and establish a new Las Vegas-based soap recycling facility for Clean the World, a nonprofit focused on saving lives by providing recycled hotel soap and hygiene education to those in need. Set to open in 2012, Clean the World's new Las Vegas Recycling Operational Center will be the bar soap and bottled amenities collection and recycling center for the nonprofit's hotel partners in the western region of the United States.

Since 2010, the Caesars Foundation has committed a combined $250,000 to aid Clean the World in opening the new facility, and decreasing acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease related deaths that result from lack of soap and health education in impoverished communities around the world.

"The Foundation's multiple grants have enabled us to substantially increase our operational capacity, diverting tons of soap and amenity-related waste from local landfills," said Shawn Seipler, Chief Executive Officer of Clean the World. "The Caesars Entertainment resorts and employees have been fantastic, and they continue to show the casino resort industry what it means to be environmentally minded and involved in the community."

More than five million lives are lost each year - the majority of whom are children - to disease caused by improper hygiene and lack of soap. By recycling used hotel soap and bottled amenities and distributing them to areas that do not have access to these essential items, Clean the World hopes to save millions of lives.

The used hotel soap that is collected and then hygienically treated comes from hotels such as Caesars Entertainment's resorts across the United States, Puerto Rico and all 10 Canadian provinces. Caesars Entertainment and its housekeeping staff have collected more than 61,667 lbs. of soap and 43,627 lbs. of bottled amenities since implementing the program at its resort casinos nationwide.

"The enthusiasm and commitment from our housekeeping staff as they collect the soaps is contagious," said Rick Mazer, Regional President for Caesars Entertainment. "We are proud to partner with an organization that literally changes and improves lives and the environment, one bar of soap at a time."

To date, Clean the World has distributed more than 9 million bars of soap to children and families in the United States, Canada and 45 countries around the world, preventing more than one million pounds of waste from polluting North American landfills.
