There were so many celebrities in the Shimmer Cabaret at the Las Vegas Hilton the other night,  it was difficult to keep track of them all.

There was Barry Manilow, Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joe Cocker, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Jim Morrison, Willie Nelson. Even Tina Turner….the list goes on and on. Well…sort of.

Yes, the audience that night (and every Saturday through Wednesday) saw glimpses of all of these stars.

And if, by that tagline, he means that he does impressions of lots of rock stars then, they do rock.

London is a very engaging performer who works very hard to engage and to entertain. He does all the standard impressions but adds some unusual ones — Dylan, Springsteen, Morrison, for example. Backed by three dancers, drums, keyboard and two guitars, he act is very polished. The work shows. And his act is fun.

Paced like the show of Gordie Brown, another Las Vegas regular, London keeps you guessing. If you don’t like one impression, wait 20 or 30 seconds and there’ll be another you may like the next. It’s frenetic and fun.

The entire audience — mostly journalists, hotel execs, and others involved in entertainment in on way or another — was in synch with London, rocking in their seats, singing along. Clearly, they were having fun. With his set lasting about 75 minutes, the joyous response was sustained throughout.

My only criticism — not only in this performance but in every performance where it’s done — is the pandering for applause. In this case, one of the guitarists kept shouting, “Let’s hear it for Greg London!!!!” as he gestured for applause. That wasn’t necessary. The audience was responding well and gave the guy a standing O…..They didn’t need to be asked to do so. Audience response comes naturally from the audience’s reaction to the performance. Let it be. Don’t shout at the audience.

Otherwise, Greg London: Impressions That Rock! is heaps of fun. Check it out.
