Australian entertainer Greg Bonham returns to Las Vegas performing soul and jazz in "G'Day Las Vegas." Accompanied by his eight-piece band, award-winning pianist Ryan Ahern and Bonham will perform the show in the Cabaret Jazz room at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts June 10.
This is Bonham's third return to the entertainment capital of the world with a new show. "I like changes," he told BroadwayWorld.com. "While I don't touch the political scene, I wanted to add other elements to it. The last time, I performed the entire show myself but this time Ryan Ahern [pianist] will play. I also added new material."
Bonham sings, plays the trumpet and will perform songs by his favorite artists including Maynard Ferguson, U2 and Eric Clapton, sing classic hits including "Hallelujah" and his original compositions. There will also be a special guest who will be introduced and will perform with Bonham.
Ahern and Bonham met years ago when Bonham got to hear Ahern play in Ahern's private theater. The two had always wanted to collaborate and "this was a chance for a change. I am always learning new arrangements and new material and with Ryan, this has transformed into a totally new experience for us and for our audience," Bonham explained.
He has seen the changes in entertainment in Las Vegas, which now includes superstar residency shows with big production values.
"Still, there are audiences that appreciate our shows. Vegas icons such as Gordie Brown are still entertaining," he said.
Bonham grew up on a sheep farm in the Australian outback. With a desire to perform, he competed and won on an Australian talent competition television show. With that success, he toured around the world and even sold over 14 million records in Russia.
"I love singing the songs of my favorite singers and I also want the audience to have fun with lots of laughs." According to Bonham, the audience appreciates that he has matured and "I want to use my talent to entertain them so they walk out happy."
"G'Day Las Vegas" starring Greg Bonham with Ryan Ahern will perform in the Cabaret Jazz room at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. on June 10. Tickets begin at $30 and can be purchased at The Smith Center Box Office, by calling 702.749.2000 or online at TheSmithCenter.com.
