Feature: LAS VEGAS VALLEY THEATRE AWARDS at Starbright Theatre

The night filled with anticipation and laughter as the winners of the 2019 Las Vegas Valley Theatre Awards were announced during the entertainment extravaganza. Held at the Starbright Theatre on July 15, Master of Ceremonies Jim Sohre of Opera Las Vegas hosted the festivities.

Poor Richard's Players (Ben Loewy, Max Lardent, and Anthony Barnaby) entertained the audience reminding them that they were not the hosts (again) of the show. Gail Romero (winner of Best Supporting Actress for Cabaret for Majestic Repertory Theatre and Super Summer Theatre) sang "So What?" from the play.

Gianni Schicchi (Vegas City Opera) shared "Schicchi's Big Idea," Tatum Rajsky and Lauren Tauber sang "The Dark I Know Well" from Spring Awakening. Keith Dotson sang "You Gotta Die Sometime" from Falsettos. The hysterical "I Hate Musicals" from Ruthless sung by Andee Gibbs had the audiences rolling in the aisles. Alex Cheney emoted "She Loves Me."

Modern Major-General from Pirates of Penzance sung by Stephen Rinck and Vegas City Opera astounded the audiences. "Watch What Happens" from Newsies sung by Naree Asherian inspired the crowd. Vogue Robinson of Poetry Promise, Inc. returned to share her profound words during the show.

The 2019 David Sankuer Award was presented to Joseph O'Neill and the Inaugural Empower Award for Steam Education honored teacher Athena Garrison. Sarah O'Connell, founder and executive director of Eat More Art Vegas, and Levi Fackrell, artistic director of Cockroach Theater, were presented the Certificate of Congressional Recognition from US Representative Susie Lee (D-NV 3rd district). The Certificate of Senate Recognition from Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) was presented to Athena Gibbons and Joseph O'Neill.
