Audiences are praising the Sierra Stages production of "End Days", an irreverent but deeply felt comedy about science, religion, and family. Written by Deborah Zoe Laufer, "End Days" plays for six more performances through March 25 at the historic Nevada Theatre in Nevada City.
The reviewer from the Prospector called "End Days" an "auspicious start" to the Sierra Stages 2017 season, noting that "[o]n opening night, the audience laughEd Loudly and often, as did I. So enjoy yourself, with humor and thoughtfulness." Among the other comments received from audience members so far are the following:
· "Do not miss this delightful, funny, and deeply thoughtful play. If you're interested in the meaning of life, in the collisions of Judaism and Christianity, in astrophysics (including the theories of Stephen Hawking), in Elvis, in 9/11, in kissing, in the Rapture, in wave vs particle theory, in hilariously dysfunctional families (this is a partial list), you will be utterly entertained and very moved. Directed with wit and energy by Robert Rossman, with spot-on costume design by Paulette Gilbert. Don't miss this!"
· "Sierra Stages does it again. It is a brilliant script, with four main characters, each on its own character arc. In this age of polarization, the script manages deftly to take us from polarized positions on religion, to compassionate understanding and acceptance. And it does so with a laugh a minute. This production is well-cast, well-acted, and well directed. I encourage my Nevada County friends to give it a go. Auburn, Roseville, and Sacramento friends, it would be worth your drive, too. You may see me there, as I am thinking of going again, to catch more of the humor that I missed the first time. Oh, yeah, it would be fun to see the Jesus and Stephen Hawking."
· "End Days" is an excellent production just launched by Sierra Stages with terrific cast and direction by Bob Rossman, solid designs and impressive tech, about a dysfunctional family in a dystopian world with competing agonies of despair, anger, denial, unrequited love and unreasonable faith in a surreal comedy stew with live hallucinations of improbable teachers and surprising redemption...all quite delightful. DO NOT MISS IT!"
· "You really can't miss with a Goth teenager, an Elvis impersonator, a depressed Dad, a religiously fanatical Mom, a beatific Jesus, and Stephen Hawking all hanging out together. Kudos to Robert Rossman and his team for a truly unique theatrical evening!"
