Southern California-based rock band Ambrosia will perform two shows at the Suncoast Showroom March 12-13.
Ambrosia was formed by guitarist and vocalist
David Pack, bassist and vocalist Joe Puerta, keyboardist Christopher North and drummer Burleigh Drummond in Los Angeles in 1970. The band chose its name to represent the vision of its music, mixing sounds to create a unique progressive and soft-rock genre.
The group released its self-titled debut album in 1975 and found instant success when "Nice, Nice, Very Nice" and "Holdin' On To Yesterday" climbed onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A year later, the band's sophomore album "Somewhere I've Never Travelled" produced another charting single with "Magical Mystery Tour."
In 1978, the band shifted to a raw jazz and R&B style for its third album "Life Beyond L.A." The album contained the group's biggest hit and first Gold single "How Much I Feel" in addition to the Billboard Hot 100 single "You're The Only Woman (You & I)."
The band went on hiatus in the late 1980s to pursue solo projects but reunited for a 30th anniversary tour in 2000. The group now tours with original members Puerta, North and Drummond, and new members
Doug Jackson on electric guitar and backing vocals,
Mary Harris on keyboards and vocals and Ken Stacey on the acoustic guitar and lead vocals. The current tour showcases Ambrosia's classic hits as well as the group's most recent work including "Hopes and Dreams," the first single off its latest album in progress.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20 plus tax and fees. Tickets can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office by calling
