"Ain't We Got Fun", starring Ben Hensley and Michael Montiel, will make another appearance at Palm Desert's Arthur Newman Theatre on Sunday, July 17th, after huge audience acclaim to their first show there in June. The show is a nostalgic look back at early 20th Century vaudeville with some updated material of the 21st Century. Just imagine, a pair of old-time song and dance vaudevillians with an Old Kit Bag, full of costumes and props, performing such standards as "When You're Smiling," "Ma! He's Making Eyes At Me," "Oh! You Beautiful Doll," and "Ain't We Got Fun". Complete with magic tricks, dances, and classic vaudevillian routines like "Slowly I turned," and some boy-girl flirtation with Montiel looking particularly fetching in campy female drag. Montiel also plays his Mexican grandmother in "The Enchilada Man" and there's a bit of double entendre in "The Zucchini Song" that makes it a little racy, even for the 'good old days'. Lindsay Martin and Hensley's direction pokes gentle fun at vaudeville all the while respecting the genre and Martin's choreography is a treat, especially the "Top Hat, White Tie, And Tails" number.
