Following highly skilled performances by competitors on May 21, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts announced the winners of its fifth annual Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards as Adelynn Tourondel from Green Valley High School and Nathan Sink from Centennial High School.

The event, hosted in The Smith Center's Reynold's Hall, showcased talented solo and ensemble performances by the top 17 musical theater students from nine Nevada high schools.

The two winners received the Dr. Keith Boman Prize for Best Actor and Best Actress from Smith Center CEO and President MyRon Martin. In recognition of their hard work and skill, both will receive a complimentary 10-day trip to New York City, where they will represent Nevada in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as The Jimmy Awards, this June.

Martin lauded Sink for his engaging acting and strong connection to his character while performing "Not Today" from musical "The Addams Family." Martin congratulated Tourondel on her emotional stage presence and powerhouse vocals while singing "Someone to Watch Over Me" from "Nice Work If You Can Get It."

The winners' trip will include housing at New York University, as well as coaching, master classes, rehearsals with renowned professionals, and attending a Broadway show where they will meet the cast. They will also receive opportunities for merit scholarships and professional advancement, plus the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. A panel of industry experts will select two exceptional students to receive The Jimmy Award for Best Performance.

In addition, Nikole York and David Wade, both from Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, each earned a Spotlight Award. They will serve as alternates at the national competition, if Tourondel or Sink are unable to attend.

This year's Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards were emceed by Martin and Las Vegas headliner Clint Holmes. Judges for the event included Torrey Russell, Kristy Love, Christine Hudman, Nicole Pryor Dernersesian and Tracey Langran Corea.
