LOT has become known for its edgy, updated settings of traditional operas, and this year is no exception. Director Grant Preisser moves the setting of Mozart’s The Magic Flute to the Nevada desert, where the annual “Burning Man” celebration occurs. The age-old conflict between good and evil is given a surprising twist in Preisser’s interpretation, for which he has written updated English dialogue. Raffaele Cipriano, doctoral candidate at KU, conducts.
