Henry Purcell’s "The Fairy Queen" is usually dubbed the first Shakespearean opera. Selections are interpolated into Purcell’s only real opera, "Dido and Aeneas," which displays distinctly Shakespearean influences. A contemporary setting in an insane asylum sheds new light on the protagonists stormy relationship. Director: Matt Haney; Conductor: Carlos Espinosa
