Unicorn Theatre's 36th season of BOLD NEW PLAYS continues with Miss Witherspoon by Christopher Durang which opened December 4. This absurdly funny story of the afterlife follows Veronica in her search for eternal peace. Instead, she finds herself in the Bardo (a Tibetan Buddhist netherworld) with an all-too-perky spirit guide who forces her to reincarnate in a dizzying array of roles from trailer-park infant to playful golden retriever. Miss Witherspoon is the second of three productions co-produced by Unicorn Theatre and the UMKC Theatre. These co-productions allow graduate student actors and designers to work alongside theatre professionals. Other Unicorn/UMKC co-productions include the current main stage play Farragut North and the world premiere of Green Whales to be mounted in March.

Miss Witherspoon runs December 4th, 2009 through January 3rd, 2010 with previews on December 2nd and 3rd. The show plays Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 3:00pm. There is a Saturday Matinee at 3:00pm on December 5th and 26th and January 2nd. There will be a special performance on New Year's Eve that will include light appetizers and drinks at 7pm and a toast with the cast following an 8pm performance. There is no show on December 24th or January 1st. There will be an 8pm performance on December 25th. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 816-531-PLAY (7529), online at www.UnicornTheatre.org or at the box office located at 3828 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64111.
